In Ayurveda, every person is understood through a unique blend of three doshas — Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Together they describe your natural constitution, known as prakriti, and how your body and mind tend to respond to food, weather, stress and routine.
Vata: air and space
Vata is associated with movement — breath, circulation and the nervous system. People with a Vata-dominant nature are often creative and quick-thinking, and may tend toward dryness, restlessness or irregular routines. Warmth, regularity and nourishing oils are traditionally considered balancing.
Pitta: fire and water
Pitta governs transformation, including digestion and metabolism. Pitta types are often focused, driven and sharp-witted, and can run warm — physically and emotionally — when out of balance. Cooling foods, moderation and time in nature are traditional supports.
Kapha: earth and water
Kapha provides structure and stability. Kapha-dominant people are typically calm, steady and nurturing, and may feel heavy or sluggish when imbalanced. Light, stimulating foods and regular movement are classic Ayurvedic recommendations.
Finding your balance
Most people are a combination of two doshas, and your state at any moment (vikriti) can differ from your natural constitution. An Ayurvedic consultation looks at both to recommend personalized diet, lifestyle and therapies.
